Symbioses are the ways in which two different organisms mutually benefit each other. This kind of beneficial relationship is abundant on tropical coral reefs, and the relationship between coral (an animal) and dinoflagellates (single-celled plants or algae) is particularly notable. The symbioses between these organisms are what make coral reefs so dynamic and important—providing homes, food, and spawning grounds for over 25% of the ocean’s species. This webinar will provide an overview of these valuable symbioses, including their diversity, distribution and inner workings. Presented by Dr. Tye Pettay – Associate Professor – Biological Oceanography Dept. of Natural Sciences at USCB.
All ages welcome
