$50,000 Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation Grant Awarded to PRSF

On December 27, 2022, Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation awarded a $50,000 Environmental Education and Stewardship grant to the Port Royal Sound Foundation (PRSF). This grant will further PRSF’s goals of “preserving the Port Royal Sound through environmental education, experiential learning, and water quality research.”

Funds from this grant will support several important education and research initiatives related to the Port Royal Sound, which is the heart of our area’s environment, culture, and economy. A portion of funds will be used for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programs that give people of all ages the chance to deepen their understanding and appreciation of our unique local environment. In addition to regular STEAM programming, these funds will enhance PRSF’s field trip offerings and Tuesday Talk lecture series for adults, and contribute to the care and maintenance of aquariums and live animal displays at PRSF’s free Maritime Center museum and aquarium.

Finally, the funds will be used towards PRSF’s expanding research activities, including a citizen science water quality monitoring program and the annual Research Symposium. These activities are significant for raising awareness about the health of the Port Royal Sound, as well as encouraging continued research on the waters in our area.

“All these education and research activities ultimately come down to building a community that understands why they should care about protecting the Port Royal Sound, and how to do that. It’s important to involve all kinds of people in this work, from schools and families to tourists and scientists. This support from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation is an investment in these programs that will support the well-being of our environment and community well into the future.”
