$8,300 Granted From Beaufort County to PRSF

The Port Royal Sound Foundation was awarded $8,300 from Beaufort County 2% Accommodations Tax Grant fund, which helped fund creation of the largest map in Beaufort County. The map hangs in our main exhibit room and shows the Port Royal Sound drainage system, historical highlights, native birds and trees. The map was created by created by New World Cartography.

“Visitors come to the Port Royal Sound Foundation’s Maritime Center from all over the United States and the world. They know little about the unique characteristics of the Port Royal Sound. It encompasses over 50% of Beaufort County and its environmental health is critical to the economic health of the region. As the second deepest natural sound on the East Coast, its tidal waters have influenced history, culture, recreation, and the economy of the entire region. This map is an artistic representation of the Port Royal Sound and demonstrates to visitors its importance and why we work so hard to protect the Sound.”
