In December 2025, the Port Royal Sound Foundation (PRSF) was awarded a grant from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation in support of educational programming. Funds will be used to support the Maritime Center, field trips, and Pluff Mudder summer camp.
PRSF’s Maritime Center is a free museum and aquarium that offers something for everybody no matter your age or interests—from exhibits highlighting local ecology, history, culture, and art to a diverse array of live fish, reptiles, amphibians, and more. Over 29,000 guests stop by the Maritime Center every year to learn about our amazing local environment and strengthen their sense of environmental stewardship. Support from Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation ensures that the Maritime Center continues to be an exciting, accessible community resource for every guest that visits. “We are so proud that the Maritime Center has become such a staple in our community, welcoming locals and tourists, children and adults, and everyone in-between. Keeping this resource free has always been a priority of the Foundation, but it takes a lot of work to make sure that our exhibits are regularly updated, our animals receive the highest quality of care, and every visitor has the best experience possible. Support from Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation helps bridge this gap and keep our focus on serving our community and conserving the environment.”
–Jody Hayward, PRSF Executive Director
PRSF’s field trips reach thousands of students every year through high-quality, hands-on environmental activities. PRSF’s naturalists are always reviewing and refining their curriculum offerings to ensure that every teacher can design the perfect field trip to complement their classroom teaching, and that every student leaves with a memorable experience that connects them to our unique local environment. Pluff Mudder summer camp keeps the learning and excitement going year-round, offering seven weeks of summer camp for kids entering 2nd grade and beyond. Each week is full of time spent exploring new habitats, learning about native wildlife, and making new friends. Support from Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation helps purchase supplies and keep fees minimal for these critical programs that deepen children’s curiosity and inspire a passion for conservation.
Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation provides grants to support community causes where their customers and employees live and work, particularly in the focus areas of basic human needs, community vitality, education, and environmental stewardship. In 2024, $46.3 million were invested in the communities Dominion serves, including $16.5 million from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation and the employee giving program. PRSF is proud to provide programs that align with Dominion Energy’s focus areas of education and environmental stewardship. Support from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation allows PRSF to pursue our mission to conserve the Port Royal Sound for the environmental, cultural, and economic well-being of our area. We are grateful to Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation for making our work possible.
