Community Foundation of the Lowcountry Investment Grant Awarded to PRSF for construction of Educational Pavilion

Okatie, SC— On May 13, 2022, the Port Royal Sound Foundation (PRSF) received the final installment of an Impact Grant from the Hilton Head Island Foundation Endowment Fund within the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry (CFL). This funding will support construction of the new Weezie Educational Pavilion on PRSF’s campus.

Since opening in 2014, PRSF has grown rapidly and remained focused on education, research, and conservation initiatives to protect the Port Royal Sound. The PRSF Board of Trustees has developed a Master Plan to guide the growth of the PRSF campus, and construction of the pavilion is its highest priority.

In 2021, over 26,000 people participated in and benefitted from PRSF programming. The new multi-use, open-air pavilion will accommodate an increasing demand for field trips, summer camp, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) activities, research symposiums, and other programs. Construction is already well underway, to be completed in early 2023.

“We are so grateful for the support of CFL in building our new pavilion. This important addition to our campus is going to expand the variety of programs PRSF can offer, increase our capacity for more activities and larger groups, and offer a mid-County event venue for our partners organizations and the community to enjoy.”
-Jody Hayward
Executive Director, Port Royal Sound Foundation

“The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry is honored to work closely with the PRSF and witness the incredible step-by-step development and construction of the new pavilion.”
