The Port Royal Sound Foundation (PRSF) was recently selected to receive a Beaufort Fund grant through the Coastal Community Foundation. These funds will support operations at PRSF, in support of its mission to conserve the Port Royal Sound for the environmental, cultural, and economic well-being of our area.
2025 has been a busy and productive year for PRSF, and 2026 is shaping up to be the same. The new PRSoundScience initiative is a dynamic effort to collect and interpret data about the condition of the Sound—water quality, land use, marsh dynamics, biodiversity, and community resilience—in collaboration with an extensive network of partners and volunteers. We have already begun to see the impact of this program by providing reliable science to inform conservation decisions in our area, and look forward to the continued growth of the initiative in 2026 and beyond. PRSF continues to offer high-quality, hands-on educational programming in the form of field trips, summer camp, public STEAM programs, and more. These activities complement ongoing conservation efforts, are informed by new research initiatives, and adapt to the ever-changing needs of students, educators, and the community. These experiences are critical to help build a culture of environmental stewardship that will protect our waterways for generations to come. Operating funds play a significant role in supporting all the work that goes into these efforts behind the scenes, as well as giving PRSF the opportunity to consistently expand and enhance the programs we offer.
The Coastal Community Foundation has been awarding grants since 1982 to create communities rich in equity, opportunity, and well-being by uniting people and investing resources so that all community members have a pathway to achieve their goals. Their pillars of coastal resilience and education align with PRSF’s work in conservation.
