Watershed Walk: Buckfield Tract
A Nature Conservancy led tour of the new Coosawhatchie WMA, formerly known as the Buckfield and Slater Tracts. This property is currently the largest state land purchase in South Carolina history. It boasts various habitats from black water rivers, Cypress Tupelo swamps, bottomland hardwood forests, and longleaf pine savanna. This property has amazing biodiversity located at the headwaters of the Port Royal Sound area and may have one of the most robust gopher tortoise populations in the state.
