Grant Awarded From Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation for PRSF Education and Research
In December 2023, the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation awarded a grant to the Port Royal Sound Foundation (PRSF) in support of important education and research initiatives to protect the Port Royal Sound. This grant will further PRSF’s mission to conserve the Port Royal Sound for the environmental, cultural, and economic well-being of our area.
“Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation has been a wonderful supporter of the Port Royal Sound Foundation. Their support has allowed us to enhance our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) programming, which teaches families and children about our amazing environment. In 2023, thousands of children benefited from our school field trips, families enjoyed participating in our free annual STEAM festival, and our Maritime Center museum welcomed 30,000+ visitors. In 2024, Dominion Energy’s generous grant will allow us to expand our research initiatives alongside our educational programming.”
-Jody Hayward, PRSF Executive Director
This funding will contribute to educational programs like summer camp, as well as the expansion and development of research initiatives. PRSF’s citizen science program involves community members who monitor water quality throughout the Port Royal Sound, providing vital baseline information about the health of the Sound. PRSF’s annual State of the Sound research symposium convenes researchers from different organizations to discuss the most pressing questions regarding the Sound.
“We’re really excited about what 2024 holds for the Port Royal Sound Foundation’s research initiatives. We’ve built a great foundation of people who care about protecting the environment and a network of partners doing work on the Port Royal Sound. This year, with support from the Dominion Energy grant, we have the opportunity to focus on the future of research on the Sound– asking what we know, what questions still need to be answered, and how to use our knowledge to protect the health of the Sound.”
-Courtney Kimmel, PRSF Research Coordinator
PRSF is grateful for Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation’s continued support. Protecting the Port Royal Sound is essential to protecting the health of our community for generations to come.
