The Port Royal Sound Foundation Breaks Ground on “Weezie Educational Pavilion”

Port Royal Sound Foundation (PRSF) hosted a groundbreaking celebration for board members, community partners, volunteers, donors, and staff on Monday, April 25th to mark the beginning of construction on the new outdoor pavilion that PRSF will use to expand and enhance educational programming.

The Weezie Educational Pavilion, named to honor the generosity of The Weezie Foundation, will have a footprint over 9,500 sq. ft. and seat over 300 guests. Centrally located in Beaufort County on the banks of the Chechessee River, the new pavilion will be next to the Foundation offices and Sharon & Dick Stewart Maritime Center.

The pavilion will be a wonderful event venue for the community to enjoy, both as a space to house educational programming and festivals hosted by PRSF, and for individuals and organizations to rent for private events.

The building was designed by FWA Group of Hilton Head Island and construction is being done by Beaufort Construction, with an estimated completion date of February, 2023.

The groundbreaking event launches the public phase of the Port Royal Sound Foundation’s campaign for this exciting addition to their educational campus – which was just named the “Dr. Chris Marsh Educational Campus” to honor Dr. Chris Marsh, a renowned advocate for the Port Royal Sound area. If you are interested in contributing to the Foundation’s growth or learning more about the educational programming, call (843) 645-7774 – PRSF is also active on Facebook and Instagram.

The mission of the Port Royal Sound Foundation (PRSF) is to preserve the Port Royal Sound for the environmental, cultural, and economic wellbeing of the area. The PRSF created the Maritime Center, a free museum and aquarium that welcomes thousands of visitors and school children each year to learn about our most important natural resource, the Port Royal Sound. The addition of the Weezie Educational Pavilion will provide numerous growth opportunities for expanding the educational programming PRSF provides for the community.
