The Port Royal Sound Foundation received $488.00 from the Lowcountry Master Gardeners Association and $2000 from South Carolina Native Plant Society for their pollinator gardens. The money was used to purchase native plants, mulch and signage for the gardens as part of the Foundation’s environmental education programs. The signage includes pictures of adult and larval pollinators, birds and bees as well as a large sign showing the lifecycle of Monarch butterflies.
“We are excited to have this signage available for all our guests, especially children and families. Children, of all ages) love to come look at the signs and then look at the plants in the garden and identify the butterflies, caterpillars, bees and, sometimes, hummingbirds. Their excitement is palpable. We appreciate this support since we have been wanting signage since we put the garden in several years ago.
In addition, we want to recognize the Lowcountry Master Gardener Association for their regular weeding, mulching and replanting every year. Our gardens receive many kudos and that is due, in large part, to the work these wonderful volunteers provide.”
